After days and nights of discussion, work and rehearsal, our big day then has finally arrived!!
This Saturday, we have successfully hosted the “CAN" Leadership Workshop.
Before I go on, I would like to share the story and objectives behind this workshop; This fresh idea of hosting a workshop for the freshmen was originated with and brought up by our creative classmates. So with the guidance and coaching from Dr. Udani, as well as the selflessness contribution from our group mates, we were able to make this workshop a fruitful one.
For the reasons why we named this workshop with the acronym “CAN” (C-Creativity, A-Attitude, N-Network) is because we would like the participants to grasp the most fundamental ideas about leadership: (a) As a leader, one should be novel and CREATIVE in thinking while encountering challenges. An innovative perspective in looking at problems and coming up with solutions is an inevitable path towards success. In other words is that one needs to be flexible and enjoy the challenges one encounters. (b) ATTITUDE has a big impact on one’s behavior and the result one wants to achieve. Most of the time, your success is depended on your attitude. Keeping a positive attitude while facing difficulties could help one to overcome these problems. (c) No matter when and where, as long as you are living in a community then NETWORK is a vital element for you to be successful. Remember the old saying: “No man is an island.” Human are collective in nature and we should recognize the power of networking.
A sentence to conclude this theme is: “You CAN be what you dream of…..”
**Besides, one minor thing to mention is about it’s linkage with Wednesday “IF” Leadership Workshop ”IF you dare to dream, then you CAN be what you dream of….” Actually, we acknowledge that leadership is a comprehensive and broad topic, thus its meaning cannot be fully covered by our theme. Nevertheless, the main purpose of this workshop is to stimulate participants’ interests in leadership and allow them to discover their own leadership potentials through the activities we provide. In addition, we hope to maximize this four hours workshop with interesting and educational tasks such to implant these useful concepts in their minds. Early before the start of the workshop at 2pm, helpers had already stood by, busy preparing for the games and did the room setting. Even though we have limited time to have our lunch, we still enjoy it!

For the first half of the workshop, we had the funny and educational ice-breaking games which contained specific topics which are related to our theme. All the participants enjoys it and this could served as a function to encourage their involvement. At the end of each section, we have reserved some time so to allow participants to share their feelings and the things they have learnt. Our main role in this workshop was to be the facilitators and mentors of the participants. We would encourage them to play an active role and take up the role of leader within their group, so to accomplish the assigned tasks. Through out the program, we listened attentively to their sharings, then we recaped the the important points and presented them in our conclusion. These then could be their take home messages =]
Our first ice-breaking game, we are all excited!!
Brainstorming Part:
After three short yet inspiring films, we came to our first Task accomplishment: Value Drama: participants were given 25min. for preparation. First, they needed to get inspiration from a short video, then performed a short drama that was related to this theme. It's really enjoyable to watch their performance and I fould that these freshmen were all great!!=]
Task completion 2 after the tea break: "Ballon Tower Building": In this task, participants have to work together to build the tallest, stablest and creative tower with the ballons. We hope that through this, they could grasp the important concepts about leadership which are: (a) to plan before work - group discussion and job allocation are vital; All the members should have reached a consent, so that they can work effectively and efficiently; (b) to turst your teammate and to overcome your fear: since the ballons are vulnerable to blast, one (especially for most of the girls) might be afraid of it and thus reluctant to participate. Here, we would like to offer them a chance to overcome their fear with the supports from their group mates; (c) to be creative, yet in a practical way: like what we have introduced in the first part *(Creative = Novel + Useful)...

Time flied and it has been a brilliant afternoon!!
Though there are rooms for improvement and we could do even better on the time management. General speaking, we have made this workshop a successful one!
Thanks for all of your participation, supports and contribution!! Let's hug!! :D
